Michael Menzies co-founded Pembroke Insurance Advisors with wife, Arika Menzies, in 2014. An entrepreneur-focused financial planning firm, Pembroke Insurance Advisors specializes in working with creative clients who need help building a sustainable financial present and future.
Michael says, “We do what we do because many creative entrepreneurs are both underserved, and have volatile cash flows. Often, they need a stabilizing team to help them manage the constant ups and downs of their income and expenses. We chose this profession because it is fun to help interesting people.
“Often creative entrepreneurs don’t know what they don’t know, and we are here to help protect them from unforeseen and unknown risks. We offer truly comprehensive financial planning to help clients solve problems they don’t know how to solve, and achieve their goals for wealth,” he says.
R. Michael S. Menzies, Jr. is an IAR (independent adviser representative) holding his Series 65 securities registration. He also holds life, health, and annuity licenses in multiple states, and is an EA (enrolled agent), a designation which allows him to represent taxpayers before the IRS. Additionally, Michael earned his designation as a CLTC® (Certification in Long-Term Care). He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Denison University in Ohio.
Michael has more than 20 years of experience in personal and small business financial planning and his work focuses on servicing the complex financial needs of entrepreneurs and their families. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Michael enjoyed careers in both the financial services and business development industries. He held an advisory position with a well-known wealth management firm serving clients in the Western United States. Concurrently, he worked as a small business consultant and was (and still is) an organic farm owner who owns Braeside Farms, LLC in Oregon.
Michael is a retired board member and current volunteer and sponsor of The Wetlands Conservancy. He is a member and volunteer of the Desert Flying Club, and member and sponsor of the Divers Alert Network.
Michael Menzies grew up on Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay, living life on the water. “Coastal living taught me hard work, respect for nature, and a commitment to those who keep us fed and clothed,” he says. “Later, I attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio, with an awesome spring semester living in Costa Rica. After college, I worked throughout Northwest Oregon as an environmental economist before somewhat retiring my field boots to split my time between the Northwest and the Southwest to run the Pembroke Family of financial services businesses.”
Michael’s free time is spent traveling, flying, scuba diving, shooting, hiking, and golfing. As he puts it, “If you are looking for a dive buddy or golf partner, please get in touch. Have a regulator and clubs, will travel!” A licensed pilot, Michael enjoys interesting, creative cuisine prepared by talented chefs, whether they are purveyors of fine dining restaurants or popular pop-up food trucks.
